'Sherlock Holmes', Bare-Knuckle Boxing and Wing Chun1/11/10
A bare-knuckle boxing scene in the new Sherlock Holmes movie shows Robert Downey Jr. displaying his Wing Chun skills and how adaptable and compatible they are with Bare-Knuckle Boxing. As a Wing Chun practitioner of several years, Robert Downey Jr. displays movements of the martial art discipline that has helped him to conquer his addictions. This scene is a good exhibition of the devastating, bone crushing power of bare-knuckle boxing. Bare-knuckle boxing or what Sifu Armando calls "The Long-Bridge System" (see "programs" page) is our indigenous fighting system and is every bit as effective as its oriental counterparts. Although the practice of Bare-Knuckle Boxing is almost gone in the United States, it is still a vital part of our training.

Ip Man Movie1/12/10
This is a scene from the "Ip Man" movie. This is a good demonstration of the power and effectiveness of a good Wing Chun fighter. Bruce Lee’s master, and the man who taught him how to fight, is Ip Man.
Taken - fight scenes1/19/10
Everyone gets it in the throat! If you like good real life self-defense martial arts action, then "Taken" is a good movie to watch. There are no flashy kicks in this movie; just Liam Neeson dispensing pain to those who deserve it most.
Wooden Dummy Practice1/31/10
In this video we see my student Casey perform the "Speed Dummy". He is practicing it very fast to improve certain aspects of his fighting ability. He is actually doing the entire set and not just moving quickly with random techniques. He is also doing a second side to sections 60, 90 and 100 to add difficulty.
We do not always practice this fast. The wooden dummy should be practiced at varying speeds in order to bring out certain desirable attributes that will translate into superior self-defense. For the most part the dummy set should be practiced slowly in order to pay attention to detail. Nevertheless, here Casey does the entire set in 1 minute and 41 seconds.

MARTIAL ARTS OF THE BOOK OF ELI 2010 MOVIE2/27/10
Eli (Denzel Washington) has been on a journey for 30 years, walking west across America after a cataclysmic war that turned the earth into a total wasteland. The world has become a lawless civilization where people must kill or be killed. The barren roads belong to gangs of cutthroats who rob and kill for water, a pair of shoes, a lighter, or just for fun. Eli is a peaceful man who only acts in self defense, and becomes a warrior with unbelievable killing skills when he is challenged. In this movie he guards a book. I don't think it's THE BIBLE so this may be somewhat useless but I haven't seen the movie yet. Still it has martial arts so....
